Liberia - Rebuilding Our Mission Station
(Photos of the grounds, school building, chapel, teacher's apartment and missionary residence) Located on the west coast of Africa, Liberia is bordered by Guinea in the north, Ivory Coast to the east, Sierra Leone on the northwest and the Atlantic Ocean to the south and southwest. Here, civil war, political coups, and assassinations have wreaked havoc upon our witness. Our beautiful Bendoo and Suehn Missions, founded in 1882 and 1912 respectively and staffed by generations of faithful missionaries, have been looted and lay in ruin. Marauding bands of soldiers, some as young as 12, have made it unsafe for our missionaries to remain.Today, Bendoo and Suehn are closed, their life and soul-caving work ended. Our work is at a standstill; those to whom we minister are without our services. Truly, we are facing new challenges in Liberia.
Our mission mandate is absolute. Surrounded by danger, our, missionaries returned to labor side-by-side with Liberians to rebuild our facilities. Upheld by prayer and supported by your gifts, our schools, churches and medical facilities reopened for a short time.
The goals for all our mission outreach - helping the local Christian community assume responsibility for the work - continues to apply to Liberia. However, continuing political upheaval, the mass exodus of Liberians fleeing for their lives, and the life-threatening dangers to those who remain, give us little hope that this goal will be achieved in the near future.
Our present goal is to raise sufficient finds to resume our witness to those who so desperately long for our return. Only your above-and-beyond giving will allow this goal to be achieved. | | We are rebuilding our mission station in Liberia - Your help is desperately needed. |
